Going Dutch in the Kitchen

January 2nd, 2012

Picture of Lamb Loin Chops from the Well Hung Lamb Co. LtdI have to be honest and say I have no idea why a Dutch oven is called a Dutch oven, presumably they originated in Holland although as I say I really have no idea. What I do know is that these Dutch ovens are absolutely brilliant to have in the kitchen. These are the ultimate pots when it comes to one pot cooking, you will find nothing better for cooking casseroles and stews. Dutch ovens are just one piece of cast iron cookware that I possess and it plays a very important part in my kitchen, I also have a skillet and a grill made from cast iron and these are equally as good and are things I could never do without. You can buy Dutch ovens either in seasoned cast iron or enamelled cast iron, you can even buy a Dutch oven with three legs specifically designed for use on an open fire ideal for camping trips.

Brine That Chicken

December 7th, 2011

I cooked some chicken legs on my Weber gas grill this weekend. I was having a small crowd over for the football game and needed a way to feed a bunch of people for not much money. With chicken legs costing about a dollar a pound they are the perfect fit.

I start my chicken the day before I grill them by soaking them in a light brine overnight. My brine is pretty simple as it only includes water, salt and sugar. I believe brining adds some flavor but more importantly adds moisture. The added moisture means that I can grill the legs until they are fall apart tender without worrying about them drying out.

I placed the chicken legs on the top rack of my Weber gas grill with my all three burners set to medium heat. I grilled them for about fifteen minutes and then rotated the legs from the left side of the grill with the ones on the right side of the grill. My grill runs significantly hotter going from right to left so I need to rotate the food to insure even cooking. After forty minutes of grilling I sauced up the legs and served them to a hungry crowd. They were quickly devoured and were a big hit.

The Cheaper Grills

December 4th, 2011

Genesis Propane Grill 42K Btu By Weber-StephenI read the cooking grill review to find the most reasonable grill for my family. But did not found any affordable and attractive one. I gave up the search and got busy in my home work and started my day with cooking. I was having extreme problems with my current grill, it had been only six months since we bought it but the food was already taking longer time to cook. That is why; I had to wake up early at six, so that I could make the breakfast and afternoon meals for my husband and kids. I am really sick of current grill, which is why I decided to take loan for purchasing quality grill. I talked with my husband about this as well, he agreed for the loan. But my friend stopped me from taking a loan and she told me to purchase propane grill. I told her about my budget constraints, so she highlighted the details of propane grill, which is one of the cheaper grills.

WMF Pressure Cooker – Operating Instructions when Cooking

December 3rd, 2011

With the WMF Pressure Cooker, cooking is a breeze. Here are some tips on how you can operate your WFM Pressure Cooker effectively. First of all, check all necessary safety precautions before each use. The sealing rim and lid rim should be clean. Check that the ball is visible in the safety valve on the underside of the lid. If the ball is in the upper chamber on the safety valve or automatic heating device on the lid, use your finger to press it into the lower chamber.

Remove the handle and check the stability of the main valve by pressing with your finger. Always check the cooking indicator seal for fit and damage. You can then insert the handle in the lid. Place the lid on the pot and then close it. It is best to carefully read the manual and all the instructions before using the WFM Pressure Cooker to avoid improper use that may cause damage.

The Kitchenaid Glass Bowl Makes the Artisan Less Boring

November 25th, 2011

If you are the kind of person that bought a Kitchenaid mixer because you like solid dependable tools and you slightly envy other food mixer owners because they have more fun, I have a nice surprise for you. Try the Kitchenaid glass mixing bowl as it will transform your food mixing experience. Now we all know that the steel bowl is directly derived from the same industrial factory scale food preparation tools that the Artisan and Classic mixers are, but that does not mean that you are stuck with it.

It is a little bit boring in it s looks, especially if you have a brightly coloured Artisan (mine is boysenberry). The glass bowl is tremendous fun to use – you can see all around the mix without having to wade in with a spoon. The whole process is just smoother. Even better, you can stick the results (bowl and all)straight in the fridge, something I would never have done with the steel bowl.

Exploring the Kitchen

September 12th, 2011

When my blender was not functioning properly, I was upset as it was a gift from my mother-in-law for my wedding. I tried to send it for repair but apparently its spare parts were not to be found anymore these days. Hence, my husband decided to replace it with what he claimed to be the best food processor. I was unconvinced about it as I have not use it before, but do see it on television. But he, being the patient man that he is, was convince that it is able to serve me well too, just as the blender did. As soon as I learned of how to operate it, I was up on my feet and scrambling around in the kitchen once more. Cooking indeed has been more fun with the food processor as compared to the blender as I can do much more with it. And I even dared to explore new recipes with it, which pleased my husband even more.
